Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the World. DESC students start Spanish in Year 7 and develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through fun, interactive and creative activities while flexing their ‘learning muscles’. The ability to manipulate a foreign language confidently and accurately is a skill that is well respected in the world of business.

Assessment Information

Assessments cover the four key skills of language learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students receive an overall level to reflect their performance in the four skills.

At GCSE, students are examined at the end of the course in listening, speaking, reading and writing (all equally weighted). We follow the AQA specification.

At A level, students take Paper 1 (listening, reading and writing – 50% of A-level), Paper 2 (writing – 20% of A level and Paper 3 (speaking – 30% of A level).

In addition to the topics studied above, students will study a film and a work of literature. They will also carry out an individual research project on a topic of their choice which relates to a country where the language is spoken.
