A Level Physical Education

A level

The new A level Physical Education course builds on the knowledge and understanding gained during the GCSE course. The marks are allocated as follows: 70% theory and 30% non-exam assessment (practical performance) of which 15% will be based on students assessed in the role of player/ performer or coach and 15% will be analysis and evaluation of performance. The course is delivered over two years with both examinations taking place at the end of the second year. Non-exam assessment may take place at any time during the course.


Component 1: Factors affecting participation in physical education and sport

Written examination: 2 hours: 35% of the qualification: 105 marks


Component 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport

Written examination: 2 hours: 35% of the qualification: 105 marks


Component 3: Practical performance in physical activity and sport

Non-exam assessment: Students assessed as performer or coach in full sided version of the activity. Plus written/verbal analysis of performance: 30% of the qualification: 90 marks
