High Performance Training Camp
The second year of the High Performance Training Camp saw 102 students and 16 staff travel to the Marriott Al Forsan Hotel, Abu Dhabi. Girls and Boys Rugby, Football and Swimming and Girls Netball elite teams all travelled on the Thursday after College and hit the ground running with a training session at Zayed Cricket Stadium, before returning to settle into the putstanding facilities at the hotel.
The students took part in four training sessions, two team building activities, a sports quiz, rehab sessions, team strategies and tactics sessions, video sessions, player/coach 1:1s and several impressive buffets; giving the students a superb platform to step into the busy season of fixtures across all the sports. The extra time the coaches were able to spend on technical and tactical coaching empowered teams to build impressive momentum across the weekend, with team cohesion and skill levels significantly higher by the end. The students are now well prepared for the challenging demands of the season, and year, to come.
A new addition to the camp was a series of friendly fixtures played against BSAK on the Saturday morning to test ourselves in preseason friendly fixtures. Our students showed their superb development over the weekend and put into practice the patterns and skills acquired in the intensive training over the weekend. The Netball girls also took part in a friendly tournament on the Friday morning which teams from Abu Dhabi used as an opportunity to select, our girls thrived in the intensive nature of this tournament, despite the heat
Notable events and performances of the weekend were Antonio D’Ambrosio pipping Victor Pereira in boys go karting, taking the win for the Boys Football; Katie Gow beating Hannah Lear to take a win for Netball; Team “Mr Randall’s sandal’s” celebrating early, then losing in the quiz decider of the paper airplane throw and all 102 students lined up in front of the hotel at the end of the camp for a team photo.
The student athletes behaved impeccably over the course of the weekend, and a special thank you to the staff who gave up their weekend to provide the students with the challenge and support to make the weekend such a success.
