Emirates Schools Karting Championship – Round 3
Dubai Kartdrome in Motor City hosted the third round of the ESKC on Sunday evening. DESC brought eight teams, each of which were ready to work as a team to improve upon their previous performances.
Following the disappointment of Round 2, during which, DESC Team 6 (Taylor and Tom Raw) went off the track in the final laps, it was clear that they required a strong podium finish in Round 3 to be in contention for the Championship. All eight teams were competitive during practice and qualifying, putting in quick laps despite the lower track temperatures. DESC Team 6’s Tom Raw managed to avoid traffic and record a hot lap (1min 11.5sec) to secure second place on the grid for the ESKC class.
The race started well with no major incidents during the first lap. DESC Team 6 were very quick, battling with the Nomad category teams and holding first for several laps. As the race progressed, it was apparent that both DESC Team 6 and DESC Team 3 (Jakob Robinson and Sultan Al Aidarous) were consistently fast. DESC Team 6 made sure to avoid a repeat of the previous round and avoided any spins. Going into the final driver change, comfortably holding second position in class, Jaden Taylor went out to complete the team’s final stint. As the chequered flag was waved to signal the end of the one hour endurance race, DESC Team 6 finished in second place, unable to catch the leading team. Well done, boys! Team 3 encountered some time penalties but still managed a very respectable fourth position in-class. Again, well done.
With one final round of the ESKC remaining (March 10th), DESC Team 6 sit on 87 points, 15 points behind first place holder. It promises to be a thrilling final round at the Kartdrome.
