DESC Chamber Choir Perform with the BBC Singers at the BBC Proms Dubai

Twelve months ago, the DESC Chamber Choir performed on the stage at Dubai Opera for the final of ChoirFest Middle East and were delighted and proud to have received the Runner-Up prize.  Little did we know that this would be the beginning of an incredibly exciting journey…  An email arrived a week or so later from the BBC in London, inviting them to feature as guest choir with the BBC Singers in the BBC Proms Dubai, to be held the following year at Dubai Opera.  Since then, a strong partnership has been forged and developed between DESC and the BBC, culminating in the most exciting concert we have ever had the honour of being involved with.  The students had the pleasure of watching the first half of the concert from the auditorium, where they were truly inspired by the professionalism and immense musicality of the BBC Singers.  After the interval, The BBC Singers and DESC Chamber Choir sang one collaborative song, We Are, by Bob Chilcott, which was re-arranged especially for us by the renowned choral composer.  This was followed by the Chamber Choir’s solo song, And So It Goes, written by Billy Joel and again arranged by Bob Chilcott.  In the words of Rob Johnston, Manager of the BBC Singers:

“Your performance tonight justified my decision to invite you to sing with the BBC Singers at this year’s BBC Proms in Dubai.  Every single person I have spoken to has expressed such admiration and pleasure in hearing you sing with the BBC Singers and on your own.  Several of the Singers themselves said that they had tears in their eyes as they watched and heard you sing And So It Goes.  It was a very special moment. Your students are an absolute delight and are all a credit to you personally and to the school”.

The concert will be aired on BBC Radio 3 in the next couple of weeks and we will ensure that we share this date with the whole DESC community as soon as we are notified.

Bravo DESC, Bravo!!
